Following the sad news that Thornbury Carnival has been cancelled again, we've had a look back through the archive to find photos from previous years.
The Carnival has been a fixture in the town's calendar for decades, but has not taken place since 2019 as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
The photo at the top of this article is from 1935. The festivities that year were in celebration of the silver jubilee of King George V.
In those days a Carnival Queen was also chosen to rule over the event.
The parade has always been an integral part of the Carnival. Here is the City of Bristol Pipe Band at the head of the parade in 2014.
Live performances have become a big part of the Carnival celebrations in more recent years, with stages set up on the Mundy Playing Fields.
These days the event is run entirely by volunteers on a not-for-profit basis, with any surplus funds donated to charity.
Here's hoping the 2022 Carnival is bigger and better than ever... and that we get a sunny weekend for it!
